Welcome Back to The Hip Hop Push Blog. Today, I want to cover 2 artists: a rapper by the name of “Vlostdog,” & a poet by the name of “Kristie Farley.” These are two 2Tempted ENT artists, with 2 completely different set of experiences and points of view, but for some reason, when they collaborate, they make magic. I’ll be covering them as individual artists, as well as the music they make with Wiccid Lo, at a later date.

Vlostdog is an artist that joined 2Tempted ENT after I started marketing them in 2022. At the very first listen, I honestly found Vlostdog’s flow to be hard to follow, even as his subject matter was clear as day. But then after continuing to listen, one day, it clicked to me that the brokenness of the flow was the beauty of the flow: how the perseverance of his message was deeper revealed within his cadence. Vlostdog’s music is draped in the spirit of persistence in spite of disappointment, a skill even I could learn to be better at.

“Father, guide me through my quest in life”

Here are a few of my favorite Vlostdog Songs:

Kristie Farley has been with 2Tempted ENT since before I started marketing them in 2022. She is a poet. I am a poet, too. I call myself a spoken word poet. Yet, Kristie is a REAL spoken word poet. I, in contrast, am a storyteller.

Kristie’s message is one of perseverance as well, which makes her and Vlostdog 2 great people to work together. Many of Kristie’s poetic releases position her, in my view, as a wise, caring aunt-like figure that has the answers in the times of chaos:

even in the one time her, Wiccid & I have had a chance to do a track. (Expect more from us in the future.)

“My quest, in this life, isn’t to be broken apart”

Here are a few of my favorite Kristie Farley Releases:

So, when Kristie & Vlostdog released music, these 2 tracks “Break Me” & “Spiral” in particular, I was shocked when I heard the first, and somewhat expectant of the quality of second after playing the first over & over.
There’s something about hearing Vlostdog saying “Father, guide me through my quest in life” and the way that the beat begins to drop when Kristie says, “My quest, in this life, isn’t to be broken apart” that sets the tone for a truly inspirational piece of artwork.

In the verse, Vlostdog laments the effects of the pressure on life and the lessons learned along the way. He mentions the effects on mental health, a conversation that 2TemptedENT artists continue in their music. In the end, he promises not to let neither internal nor external factors overtake him.
On the same song, Kristie shares a short take where she bounced back, and kept showing up, finishing her verses with the cryptic line, “Ancestors, Save A Seat For Me…
Wonderful piece of art, you two!

“Ancestors, Save A Seat For Me…”

When “Spiral” dropped, after being enlightened on “Break Me,” I was already aware of what this duo could accomplish. Spiral, however, was a very melodic song with some guitar strings in the hook, a sound of a child crying, & piano tones later, all in the beat, whereas “Break Me” was melodic but had much stronger base in the song.

In Spiral, Vlostdog expresses a sentiment of regret, examining the pitfalls of love, and the lack of reciprocity in friendships. He states he is now prioritizes his growth and that there’s no sense of waiting on him to focus back on others.

Kristie, in response, stresses him not to look in the wrong direction for the wrong things. Sometimes, as beings in distress, we seek answers to our struggles in the wrong places. She uses her calm demeanor and her caring sound to relay the message that maybe what Vlostdog wants isn’t fundamentally right for him.

I will be looking forward to more of my future favorites coming from these two.
